Shelbourne extended their SSE Airtricity League first division lead by one point as Shane Barnes injury time goal gave Cabinteely a share of the spoils.
On a low scoring evening in the first division, Tolka Park was devoid of action, Shane Farrell giving Shels the lead 11 minutes from time.
Farrell had collected a long ball behind Conor Keeley then fizzing the ball across goal which seemed to find the net all by its self, despite the efforts of Karl Moore.
The game shot into drama as Shane Barnes burst into the box in the second minute of injury and fired low past Colin McCabe.
Conan Byrne spurned a chance to take all three points for Shels as Stephen McGuinness saved his penalty in the sixth minute of injury time.
Shels are now six points clear of Drogheda United and eight clear of Longford Town.
Meanwhile Bray Wanderers pulled themselves back into the promotion hunt with a deserved 1-0 win over Limerick in the Carlisle Grounds.
Paul Keegan’s penalty kick two minutes into first half injury time the deciding factor as Bray saw Killian Cantwell sent-off five minutes into the second half.
Bray now sit five points off the play-off places held by fourth placed Cabinteely on 36 points who are level on points with Longford Town.
Elsewhere bottom placed Wexford collected their 10th point of the season in a dour nill-all draw with second from bottom Galway United.
Second placed Drogheda United travel to Longford Town tomorrow evening while Athlone Town travel to Cobh Ramblers
