Reigning champions Roscommon booked their place in the Connacht Intermediate ladies football final with a 6-13 to 2-10 win over Leitrim in the St Mary’s club grounds in Carrick- on- Shannon.
Roscommon had a worldwind start with three goals in the opening two minutes. Jenny Higgins with a brace and Laura Fleming providing the other goal.
Leitrim got two goals through Laura O’Dowd and Michelle Heslin in the 11th and 12th minute to put them back into the game
Rebecca Finan added a fourth goal in the first half in the 25th minute for Roscommon. The half-time score left it at Roscommon 4-05 Leitrim 2-02.
Leitrim tried hard after the interval but Roscommon had the wind in the second half and their big lead was never threatened.
The second half goals for Roscommon came from Alanna Handmore and Substitute Aimee O’Connor got a goal on her debut.
Roscommon now face Sligo in the Connacht Intermediate Final on the 23rd of June. It’s a repeat of last years final. The sides have played twice this year in the league with Sligo winning narrowly on both occasions.
