Dundalk Job-Highly Coveted

Dundalk are on the lookout for a new manager after Stephen Kenny became the Republic of Ireland under-21 manager.

The Louth club have won four out of the last five SSE Airtricity League Premier Division titles.

Former Longford Town manager Alan Mathews spoke to Kevin McDermott about the future prospects of the successful club.


“It’s a crucial time for the club now. They have new owners who have contacts obviously outside of this country and will probably look far and wide in sourcing the best candidate”.

Mathews praised the job Stephen Kenny has done.

“Stephen Kenny is arguably the most League of Ireland manager and has got his just rewards which is being brought into the international fold”

The former Athlone Town boss also outlined it’s a highly coveted job

“They’ll have no shortage of takers from way outside this league and looking at the players and the way the club is structured they’ll be ok.”

Mathews also indicated the job facing a new manager at the club.

“They will have to first replicate whats gone on and then try and see can they better it and get into the group stages of the champions league”.
