Longford’s Cian McPhilips won the prestigious GV Ryan 800 metres when he posted a new personal best of 1:50.71 on Saturday evening.
This is the first serious impression in McPhilips senior career with the early season competition, McPhilips holding off 2017 European junior bronze medalist John Fitzsimons for victory. Fitzsimmons clocking 1:51.21.
Meanwhile Mullingar Harriers and Mercy secondary school Ballymahon’s, Oisin Lane set a new personal at the Under-20 European race walking 10Km cup in Alytus, Lithuania.
Lane clocked 45 minutes 17 seconds to finish in 16th place overall. The 16-year-old competing against athlete’s up to four years his senior in the under-20 grade.
While In France, Carrick-on-Shannon’s Ger O’Donnell posted 14.07 seconds for the 110m hurdles while racing for his French club SPA Vernon and taking victory in the Caen meet.
