A Crucial day in Division one: The Cavan and Monaghan perspective

Ahead of Roscommon’s crucial clash with Kerry in Doctor Hyde Park tomorrow afternoon there are three crucial games on today as we reach the business end of the league.

Monaghan GAA is on a crest of a wave as the team currently sit on top of the Allianz football league Division 1 league table after wins over Mayo and Kerry and a draw with Cavan in the opening 3 rounds.

Last Sunday they had a one point battling win in Killarney over Eamon Fitzmaurice’s Kerry with Monaghan getting two goals in the game in Fitzgerald Stadium through Jack McCarron and Gavin Doogan.

Shannonside Northern Sounds Sean Mc Caffrey, caught up with Colin McAree as selector on the Monaghan side to reflect on their season so far and to look ahead to tonight’s big match with Tyrone in Healy Park in Omagh. McAree explained that there was a ‘pep in the step’ of the Monaghan side in Training this week.

Cavan and Donegal will also meet this Saturday evening in division one in Kingspan Breffni park. Cavans match with Tyrone due to be played last Sunday was postponed due to a water-logged pitch in Healy Park. Mattie McGleenans side have a defeat to Dublin and a draw with Monaghan to their name so far

Sean Mc Caffrey spoke to P.R.O of the Cavan county board Marc O Rourke in the lead up to the game.

Elsewhere in the Division Dublin will face Mayo in Croke Park this evening with Dublin having drawn with Donegal last Sunday while Mayo beat Roscommon last Saturday evening.

All games tonight get underway at 7 pm.
