The GAA is set to spend an estimated €71 million on redeveloping Croke Park by expanding its conference and hospitality facilities and upgrading its museum according to the Irish Independent.

It will be the first major work undertaken at the Association headquarters since its previous redevelopment which began in 1991 and finished in 2005.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is planning to lend the Association €35 million to cover the cost of the works with the GAA looking to match that amount with funding of their own.

News of the development work is been seen as a positive as the sporting organization currently deals with Covid 19 restrictions, which may see the start of the National leagues next month been postponed, while all activity both competitive and training wise under their remit is stalled.

With last years championship having been completed behind closed doors, the Association has taken a major financial hit, even though they availed of government funding to help them deal with the Coronavius pandemic.
