Meals on Wheels

Hundreds of meals are delivered every day to people living in the Shannonside/Northernsound region, who because of age, disability or illness are unable to prepare an adequate meal for themselves.

They may also be living alone and have no one to make them a dinner.

The service, provided by meals on wheels, does incur a charge, but it is partly paid for through state interventions and fundraising.

According to the national council on aging and older people, the majority of those who work for meals on wheels are volunteers.

On the Joe Finnnegan Show Monday, we heard that the army helped deliver 152 meals to homes in County Longford because of the weather – and so we reached out to those who use the service to tell us their story… why they get it and what it means to them..
