A Roscommon councillor admits that building embankments at Lough Funshinagh, Rahara, cannot be seen as the permanent solution to flooding in the area.

The local authority is understood to be set to begin works at protecting at least four four homes in the south Roscommon area before the end of the month.

Work has been ongoing at raising the level of roads in the area to try to prevent devastating flooding that affected the Ballagh area last winter.

However, local councillor Laurence Fallon admits that while the work is welcome, there is no guarantee of its long-term success.
