Sligo Hospital has become only the second in the country to get a prestigious Green Flag award.
The award recognises the commitment of management and staff in developing the hospital as a healthcare facility that delivers high quality care, improved public health and wellbeing, in an environmentally friendly way.
The Green Flag award is the result of a four year project which included the hospital reducing its energy consumption by 18%.

Walking routes have been developed around the hospital grounds to link health awareness to sustainability, and a number of waste reduction initiatives have also been introduced.
