Shannonside auctioneers say rent increase cap should be piloted in cities first

Auctioneers in the Shannonside region say that it’s too soon to introduce a cap on rent increases in regional towns.

Fianna Fail is challenging Fine Gael to widen its plan for a 4% ceiling on rent increases not just to Dublin and Cork but to other larger cities including Waterford, Limerick and Galway.

Speaking on Shannonside FM earlier today, Aideen Hayden of Threshold claims there a case to extend it even further to regional towns like Athlone, Longford and Mullingar.

Roscommon auctioneer P Burke of Sherry Fitzgerald in Roscommon says while rents in the county have gone up, the hikes aren’t as significant as the larger cities and that’s where this scheme should be start first.
