One person reportedly dead following Scottish train derailment

Scotland's first minister says there are 'early reports of serious injuries' after a passenger train derailed in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services have declared a major incident.

Pictures on social media show smoke billowing into the sky and dozens of ambulances and police cars in a nearby field.

British Transport Police says it happened at 9.43 this morning on the line at Stonehaven.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon has told the Scottish Parliament it's "extremely serious" and involved a passenger train.
