Garda CarA local spokesperson for Muintir na Tíre says tomorrows planned strike action by gardai should not make people in rural areas any more vulnerable than usual.

Vanessa Clarke who is Regional Community Alert Development office with the body, says garda resources in rural areas are an everyday concern, but people should still look out for their neighbours tomorrow.

Muintir na Tíre is welcoming the decision of the GRA to provide skeletal policing tomorrow, but says the action will have an impact on programmes like Community Text Alert, which runs in co-operation with the gardai.

Speaking on Let’s Talk on Shannonside FM this afternoon, Vanessa Clarke says communities in the West and North West already have to deal with having poor garda resources, and tomorrow shouldn’t be very different in that sense.
