A 30-year-old man will be sentenced next week in relation to the harassment of a young Roscommon woman.
Roscommon Circuit Court heard yesterday that Alan Higgins of Ballymacurley, Castleplunkett, Castlerea sent dozens of explicit and threatening messages via Facebook to Kylie Beirne of Tober Elva, Castleplunkett, Castlerea on various dates in April 2015.
The court was told that that Higgins’ contact with 28-year-old Ms Beirne had caused her huge stress and she had not been able to sleep for weeks.
The messages sent had been of an explicit nature and contained threats to kill the victim and other members of her family.
Judge Keenan Johnson said Higgins had failed miserably to comply with a previous court order to engage with the probation service and have no contact with Ms Beirne.
The judge activated an 18 month-old suspended sentence backdated to November 2015 when the accused was taken into custody.
And he warned Higgins, who pleaded guilty to nine charges of breaching the court order, that any sentence imposed next Tuesday would run consecutively with the 18 months.
