A man continues to be questioned after a man was killed and a Garda injured in Castleblayney this morning.
The Garda had attempted to stop a silver Audi at Castleblayney Garda Station at around 11.30 last night.
The man drove off and a Garda was dragged by the car for about 500 metres, before it crashed into a Skoda on Main Street.
The Garda, a man in his late 20s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment for facial, head and leg injuries, where he remains. The driver of the Skoda, man in his 40s who’s from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Audi remains in Garda custody. He can be questioned for up to 36 hours. Local Councillor Jackie Crowe says the town of Castleblayney is shocked by the incident:
