Man dies after early morning collision in Offaly

A 70-year-old man has died after a collision with a lorry in Co. Offaly.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them.




The single vehicle collision happened at around 7:30 this morning on the N62 Ferbane to Athlone Road.

A male pedestrian in his 70s was seriously injured in a the collision with an articulated lorry – he was taken by ambulance to Tullamore Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed while a forensic collision examination took place, but it has since re-opened.

Gardai in Birr are asking witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who were on the stretch of road between 7 and 20 past 7 this morning to contact them.
