A man has been arrested after a security guard was stabbed and a garda injured in Kildare.
The attacks happened in the town on Wednesday evening.
At around 5:30pm a man entered a supermarket in Kildare town and was approached a security guard in his 30s as he tried to steal an item.
The man produced a knife and stabbed the security guard.
The suspect then made off in the direction of the Dublin Road.
The security guard received non life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.
Gardai were alerted to the attack and approached the suspect who produced two knives and tried to assault the officers.
The man was disarmed and arrested.
One Garda was injured during the arrest but did not need hospital treatment.
The suspect aged in his 40s, is currently being held at Kildare Garda Station.
