the largest amount of money will improve several areas across County Leitrim.

Funding of close to €450,000 has been announced to enhance outdoor projects across the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

The money will be used to enhance local mountain trails, forest walks, lakes, rivers, and greenways.

Co Leitrim receives the biggest allocation, with close to 177-thousand euro going to nine projects in the county.


Next comes Longford, which will benefit from funding of more than 142-thousand euro for eight outdoor projects.

Roscommon will get similar funding, receiving over 139-thousand euro for eight schemes.

Provision of Pause Points. Providing a number of recreation “Pause Points” along the Blueway route beside natural waters. Lough Allen Canal, Drumshanbo to Leitrim Village €18,000

Derrycarne Wood. Improvement Works To improve the outdoor recreational value and inclusivity of Derrycarne Wood for the entire community, through improved parking, seating, signage and enhanced trail surface. Derrycarne Woods, Dromod, Co. Leitrim €20,000
Leitrim's Outdoor Activities. Develop a series of videos to promote specific activities in County Leitrim. Leitrim €19,980

Scardan Waterfall & Environs. Improve access and enhance Scardan Waterfall amenity including road and directional signage, upgrading walkway and lower waterfall area, planting and outdoor furniture. Scardan Waterfall, Tarmon, Co. Leitrim €20,000
Lough McHugh Access Road. Reinstating existing road allowing access to the carpark. Eslin Bridge, Co. Leitrim €20,000


Cycle Leitrim Phase 2. Cycle Leitrim Phase 2 (200km) of Leitrim Cycle Routes. Development will see further installation of Alpine Style on[1]road cycling infrastructure, including directional signage climb/decent gradients and warning signs Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim €19,980

Garadice Amenity. Improvements Maintain and enhance water side recreational infrastructure, to include new signage, interpretive panels and maintenance works on existing infrastructure. Garadice Lake, Co. Leitrim €19,125

Melvin Eco/Aqua Park – Woodland and Water Access Project. Enhanced access features, providing improved entry and egress for walkers, cyclists, swimmers, kayakers and other recreational users. Kinlough, Co. Leitrim €19,530


Kiltyclogher/Deans Lake Trail (Phase1). Kiltyclogher Forest Trail Phase 1 is a recreational amenity adjacent to Kiltyclogher village comprising of a forest/wildlife Trail, incorporating a scenic river route and viewing point for Dean’s lake. Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim €20,000

Royal Canal Greenway Car Park, Stonepark. The enhancement of the existing car park area at the entrance to the Royal Canal Greenway. Stonepark, Co. Longford €20,000

Moyne Walkway. Construction of trail linking new path from Legga to Sli na Slainte trail. Moyne, Co. Longford €20,000
Solar lights, Ballinalee Forest Walk. The provision of 14 no. solar lights to the newly developed Ballinalee Forest Walk. Ballinalee, Co. Longford €20,000


Aughnacliffe Amenity Trail. Enhancements Enhancement of the accessibility of the Aughnacliffe Amenity Trail through enhanced signage, accessibility measures and seating. Aughnacliffe, Co. Longford €20,000

Commons North Walk. Upgrade The upgrade and enhancement of the existing Commons North walk. Commons North, Lanesborough, Co. Longford €20,000

Lime Tree Walk. Opening up of Lime Tree Walk, as well as enhancement of surrounding area. Mosstown, Keenagh, Co. Longford €20,000
Rath River Walk. Phase 1 of the development of the trail along the River Inny linking Derragh Lough to Fore, Co. Westmeath. Rath, Abbeylara, Co. Longford €20,000

Edenmore Bog Walk - Seating & Signage. New signage and wheelchair accessible seating and benches and new waymarker posts and arrows. Edenmore, Ballinamuck, Co Longford €2,224.73

Cavetown Lake Walk. The development of a footpath/cycle track that allows the safe completion of the 6km loop walk. Boyle, Co. Roscommon €20,000
