The people of Longford are being urged to take ownership of the new Royal Canal Greenway.

The walking and cycling route stretching from Dublin to Longford, which has been developed at a cost of €12 million, has officially launched today. It's hoped to be an integral part of the slow activity tourism movement under the Hidden Heartlands brand which will be promoted nationally and internationally.

Small businesses along the route, including on and off water activities are set to benefit.
