Westmeath Rose to take to Tralee stage tonight

People across the Shannonside counties will be rooting for the Westmeath Rose Eva Cooney tonight as she takes to the stage in Tralee.

The 22-year-old psychology student is the only Rose from the local region to make it through to the final event.

Eva is from Glasson, close to the Longford border, but also has strong connections in the area courtesy of her grandfather Paddy Cooney who represented the Longford/Westmeath constituency as a Fine Gael TD and Minister in the past.

The Westmeath Rose’s father Mark is also a former Fine Gael councillor for Athlone.

Speaking on Let’s Talk today, Mark Cooney said the family would be happy to think that people in the surrounding counties would be wishing Eva well tonight…
