Westmeath Chief Superintendent assigned to new role two weeks after appointment

The newly appointed Chief Superintendent for Westmeath is being transferred just two weeks after her appointment was announced.

Chief Superintendent Johanna O’ Leary was announced as the divisional Chief Superintendent on the 29th of July, but today it’s been revealed that she is being assigned to the garda Anti-Corruption Unit.

It’s being reported that Westmeath is to merge with Meath under the proposed reduction and changes to garda divisions, and the head of the Meath division Chief Supt. Fergus Healy has now assumed temporary responsibility for the Westmeath division.

There’s still no official information on whether Longford will be merging with a new Roscommon Mayo division, or whether it will join Westmeath and Meath.
