The pool in Athlone Regional Sports Centre will be shut for the rest of the week due to damage to the roof.
A stainless steel part became dislodged during Storm Brendan last week, and the decision to close the pool was subsequently made after an initial report by structural engineers.
Experts from the UK are due to arrive tomorrow to investigate further, and in the meantime pool management are constructing a safety net above the pool.
The gym, fitness classes, sauna and steam room will reportedly be open as normal, as well as the café in the centre, and it’s hoped everything will re-open on Saturday.
