South Westmeath Hospice committee members to meet Simon Harris today

Members of the South Westmeath Hospice committee are to meet with the Minister for Health this afternoon to discuss ongoing concerns over the future of the service.

Simon Harris agreed to meet members last week after the HSE told hospice members and public representatives that they intend closing the purpose-built unit at the end of this year beside St Vincent’s care centre and will instead provide two palliative care beds within the Centre itself.

However, the plan has angered the committee who run the hospice which provides palliative care to dozens of people every tear.

A protest march is planned for next month if the decision is not reversed before then, while an online petition to try and save the hospice has over 2100 signatures, out of a target of 3,000.
