Roscommon Integrated Development Company has been allocated €595,000 to provide basic digital skills to training to 7,000 people.
Meanwhile, Irish Rural Link received €105,000 to train 1,300 people, which was welcomed by local Independent Alliance TD Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.
The funding has been given by Communications Minister Denis Naughten under his department’s Digital Skills for Citizen Grant Scheme.
The aim of the initiative is to provide people with the confidence, motivation and skills to take their first steps online.
The department says one in six adults in Ireland has never used the internet.
RIDC and Irish Rural Link are two of 15 organisations countrywide given money under the scheme, with a total of €2.2 million provided.
