Farmers throughout the Shannonside region are being urged to help save the sector by attending a specially convened meeting tonight.
The rallying cry comes from the recently formed Beef Plan Movement which has amassed 10,000 members in just two months.
The voluntary group is now well on the way to meeting its’ target membership of 40,000 beef farmers which would represent 60pc of the overall total.
Committee member David Whelehan says the grassroots movement was formed out of the frustration of farmers who have seen their profits eroded by processors and retailers
He’s urging all those involved in the farming sector to attend tonight’s meeting in The Downs GAA Club in Mullingar at 8.30pm.
