Sub aqua divers in Athlone recovered a second body from the River Shannon today.

Divers from Athlone and Roscommon sub aqua units carried out searches over the weekend and recovered a man’s body from the river on Sunday morning.

The second body was recovered from the river around half past twelve today.

It followed a search for a man who lived on a barge near Athlone boat club and who hadn’t been seen in recent days.

Bernie Mc Carrick who is regional diving officer with Roscommon Sub Aqua club says the voluntary operations for missing persons are an important part of what the local clubs do, and they are happy to be able to provide the service for families.
