Residents opposed to plans for a large scale housing development in Athlone say they are not ruling out legal action if it comes to it.

A development of over 420 homes, with a mix of large apartment blocks for the greater Coosan area of Athlone, has been submitted directly to An Bord Pleanala as part of the Strategic Housing Development Scheme.

Residents groups in nearby estates of the Glen and Church Hill will be among those submitting their objections based on scale, design, increased traffic, and lack of adequate amenities, by next weeks deadline.

A decision is due by October 24th next, but the Glen resident, Eimhín Griffith says even at this stage, people are considering taking their case to the highest level.
