A meeting is to take place in the coming weeks in the Glasson area of Westmeath to discuss how the community may be able to resist a road impacting on the local village.
It follows a recent well-attended public meeting which saw over 150 people gather to debate their concerns about options which are being proposed for the realignment of the N55.
Local residents say two of the options would see the new roads coming very close to the village and would end up impacting badly on the local community.
Submissions on the route options have now closed and the council will hope to have the final preferred route chosen early next year.
Niall Coghill says people will get together in the coming weeks to see what kind of campaign they could mount if the final route chosen is set to impact the community badly.
