Public warned of overcrowding at Mullingar Hospital

The HSE is asking people not to visit the emergency department at the Regional Hospital Mullinger unless they are seriously ill as the unit is currently very busy.

A lot of patients have been admitted with what are described as “complex needs,” many of whom are still in the department waiting for a bed.

According to the INMO the hospital is one of the most overcrowded in the country today with 33 patients either on trolleys or on a ward with no bed for them.

The HSE is asking people in the region with less serious illnesses to contact their GP in the first instance rather than presenting at the hospital.
