Plans to close South Westmeath hospice have been shelved

HSE plans to close South Westmeath Hospice have been shelved according to Athlone-based Minister of State, Kevin Boxer Moran.

Minister Moran says he was very pleased with the outcome of the meeting at government buildings earlier today with Minister Harris, which included Joe Whelan and Claire Lennon from the hospice committee and other local politicians.

Kevin Boxer Moran says that Minister Harris confirmed the Hospice Committee had every right to feel aggrieved at the manner in which the HSE had dealt with the matter to date.

He said he and the committee members were very happy to hear that the HSE plans had been shelved and that meaningful engagement must now take place between the HSE, the Hospice Committee and staff.
