Westmeath county council has given the go ahead for the development of 15 houses in the Baylough Bogganfin area of Athlone on the Galway road.
Wincove Land Limited lodged the planning application with Westmeath County Council for the development last December.
Some of the homes will be three-storey terrace and semi-detached property, along with three dormer bungalows.
The application to build the houses had faced opposition and submissions had been made by some local residents who had concerns about pedestrian access to the existing St Joseph’s Villas and the impact on a nearby green area.
The council has also granted permission this week for 10 housing units to be built at Weavers Row in Moate.
