Planning appeal lodged against a decision preventing developer from completing a ghost estate in Athlone

A planning appeal has been lodged against a decision by Westmeath County Council to refuse a developer permission to finish a ghost estate in Athlone.

An application was lodged in January of 2019 by SPDD Properties to complete the partially constructed Glenatore residential development in Clonbrusk.

The developer was hoping to complete a total of 29 new homes- which would have been a mix of two, three and four bed units.

The local authority last month refused permission, on three grounds, including what the council’s planners described as a ” substandard design approach” which was in contravention of the Athlone Town Development plan.

The developers have now appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanala where inspectors have indicated a decision will be made by July 13th.
