A staff member with the new Pieta House service in Athlone says he believes the facility will be able to help many people in the region over the next number of years.

Gerard Tiernan who previosly voluteered for the Console service in Athlone is now working for Pieta House which has officially taken over the premises in recent weeks.

Pieta Midlands is staffed by four therapists who provide free, one-to-one therapeutic services for people who are in suicidal distress and those who at risk from self-harm.

Gerard Tiernan says they have already begun helping people in the centre over the past two weeks and he expects they will be a lot more once people are aware that it’s there.
