Online campaign to raise funds for Westmeath oil spill clean up

A GoFundMe page has been established to help the clean up efforts, after an oil spill on the Rivers Al and Shannon last week.

Crews from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, as well as Westmeath County Council and Waterways Ireland, are still trying to help animals affected by the oil spill reported last weekend.

Swans and signets are being cared for a special centre in Kildare and, in order to help maintain efforts to rescue other animals affected by the spill, a GoFundMe page was established late this week.

As of this morning, €2,800 has been raised from a target total of €5,000.

The oil spill resulted in an angling competition on the Shannon being cancelled, and no source of the spill has yet been identified.
