Official opening of Mullingar A and E postponed for second time

The official opening of the new Accident and Emergency Unit at Mullingar hospital has been postponed for a second time.

The unit was to be opened several weeks ago after a refurbishment costing over €5 million euro, but a visit by Minister Simon Harris to perform the official ceremony had to be cancelled because of a dispute with the INMO over staffing levels for the unit.

A second opening date had been arranged for this morning, but the event had to be cancelled on last Friday evening.

It’s understood the cancellation is as a result of the unexpected sitting of the Dail today, but that the opening is being rescheduled for a date in early January.
