OPW Minister Kevin Boxer Moran says people on the west side of Athlone can look forward to a real improvement and regeneration there over the next couple of years.
He was speaking after he paid an official visit to the new phase of Athlone garda station this morning to view the finished work on the old social welfare office.
The social welfare office is just beside the existing garda station on Barrack Street in the town, and gardai moved from the old premises, into the new last week, to allow works begin on the second phase of the multi million euro project.
That will involve the refurbishment of the old garda station building, and then the linking of the two with a modern glass structure.
Kevin Boxer Moran says the development is tangible evidence of a regeneration promise for the west side of the town.
