Athlone IT President Ciarán Ó Catháin is welcoming today’s announcement of a major capital investment for the institute.
Athlone is to get a state-of-the-art STEM building which will concentrate on science, technology, engineering and maths.
The facility will create capacity for up to 1,000 additional students in those disciplines.
The new building which is expected to cost several million euro will house science labs, lecture theatres, classrooms and other facilities.
Ciarán Ó Catháin says it will consolidate Athlone IT’s existing involvement with the pharmaceutical companies, but will also allow for new development in terms of product design.
Longford-westmeath TD Kevin Boxer Moran says its major boost to the Shannonside region.
