Lough Ree RNLI are operating with a new lifeboat this week after receiving an Atlantic 85 class vessel at the Coosan Point lifeboat station on Tuesday.
The new boat replaces the Eric Rowse which was used for rescues and lifesaving on Lough Ree since August of 2014.
Volunteers in the Athlone area have been finishing training on another Atlantic 85 ahead of the arrival of the Tara Scougall yesterday evening.
The new boat was funded through the efforts of James Scougall in memory of his late wife Tara Scougall, and it will be officially named at a special ceremony and service of dedication at the Lifeboat station next year.
Tony McCarth who’s Lifeboat Operations manager with Lough Ree RNLI says the new boat is bringing a lot of added features that will greatly help the crew on their rescue missions.
