Locals plan to continue opposition to Lough Ree water plans despite withdrawal of planning

Irish Water has withdrawn its planning application for the extraction of water from Killinure Lough.

In a statement to Shannonside news, it says that since it submitted its application in December, it has carried out a number of additional environmental and technical surveys.

The findings of the surveys have now resulted in a number of design changes to the scheme, primarily the realignment of the pipeline route.

Irish Water says it will be submitting a revised planning application to incorporate these changes in the coming months.

Ballykeeran resident Catherine Fallon is opposed to the plans which would see a new treatment plant build at the Portnaneena amenity.

She says the application is flawed in many ways.
