The Ballymahon defibrillator group is urging on communities to check their defibrillator equipment and keep their volunteers training uptodate.

It's after a man in the Tang area received CPR and required the use of a defibrillator from his family and neighbours on Saturday.

The man was treated until the ambulance service arrived and paramedics administered further shock treatment and medication.

He is now recovering in hospital.

All those from the community who were involved had undertaken training and the machine was recently checked over by a technician.

Darren Mulleady a paramedic who was off duty at the time but worked on the man says it's really important to ensure people refresh their skills on an ongoing basis.
