LISTEN: Red Cross secretary says it is still committed to Athlone despite closing branch

The General Secretary of the Irish Red Cross is rejecting suggestions that the charity will not be able to garner support in the future in the Athlone area.

The question of whether the Red Cross would be able to reform in Athlone was put to Liam O’ Dwyer yesterday after it was announced that the local branch was being closed with immediate effect.

The organisation has committed to forming a “new and appropriate voluntary service” in the area in the future.
