Kevin Boxer Moran says no immediate threat of flooding to homes in Athlone

Former OPW Minister Kevin Boxer Moran says the levels of the Shannon and Lough Ree still have not reached capacity in relation to the threat of flooding.

While lands along the river have flooded over recent weeks, Kevin Boxer Moran says he’s been monitoring the levels closely over the past week and there’s still “room to play with” as regards the level of the river and Lough Ree, and he’s hopeful that houses won’t be affected as a result.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning the outgoing Independent TD says he believes there is some leeway until there is serious concern about homes, but that will also depend on the density of rainfall over the next few days.

Boxer Moran also says he regrets his remark that the people of Athlone let him down in the recent general election, and he says he will still be available to help people at risk of flooding even if he isn’t an elected representative for the area.
