Hundreds of staff temporarily laid off at Dawn Meats plants

Several hundred people have been temporarily laid off from three Dawn Meats factories.

150 staff have been let go in Grannagh , Co Kilkenny, but it’s not known which other two plants are affected.

Dawn also has plants in Kilbeggan and Ballyhaunis.

These layoffs are a result of the ongoing protests outside more than 20 meat factories across Ireland over the past 11 days.

The Beef Plan Movement has been leading the demonstrations, supported by at least 4,000 farmers.

They’re angry at the low prices they’re getting for their stock.

The protests have had a big impact on meat processing, leading to Dawn Meats’ decision.

Dawn Meats has declined to comment on the job-losses.
