House owners and land owners along the N55 between Ballymahon and Athlone should know by March 2018 if they will be affected by a new road.
It was announced in early October of 2017 that a whole new road was being proposed for the route, after one section had bene studies for realignment.
The 18 kilometre route between the two towns is likely to cost around €50 million euro and take some years to achieve.
A public consultation was held on the route in Tubberclaire towards the end of October and members of the public were able to view what constraints would have to be taken into consideration.
