Four Shannonside schools to take part in energy efficency pilot programme

Several schools in the Shannonside region are to take part in an energy efficiency upgrade pilot programme

The €7million government retrofit scheme is aimed at reducing energy consumption to try and make schools ‘greener’.

In total 17 schools nationwide have been selected to take part in the scheme, including St Peter’s School in Athlone as well as St Hilda’s special school.


Cornafulla National school and Holy Rosary college in Mountbellew are also part of the trial with works to begin this summer on improving windows, doors, insulation, lighting and heating in order to achieve an expected 33% energy efficiency improvement.
