Former Justice Minister Paddy Cooney receives apology from Irish Times

The former Minister for Justice Paddy Cooney has settled a defamation action taken against the Irish Times.

The ex- Longford-Westmeath TD received an apology, damages and legal costs after the matter came before the High Court yesterday.

The legal action was lodged after an article published in February 2014 and a further article published in June 2016.


Counsel for the Athlone man told the court that the mater had been settled and an apology from the newspaper was read in court

The matter was then struck out on the basis of agreement between both sides.
