Mairead McGuiness looks set to retain her Midlands North-west European parliament seat according to an exit poll tonight.
Figures suggest that the former TV presenter has secured 25% of the vote, with Sinn Fein’s Matt Carthy behind her on 13%.
Saoirse McHugh has polled strongly according to the RTE exit poll- and appears to have gathered 13% support.
Ex-Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh and Roscommon’s Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan are tied on 10% support each.
Fianna Fail candidate Brendan Smith is on 6% and running mate Anne Rabbitte on 3%.
Presidential runner-up Peter Casey is on 7% but the poll has a 4% margin of error.
