Two million euro in funding has been allocated to the Athlone IT and Limerick IT university consortium.
The funding is part of the government’s investment in the technological university sector.
This money will reportedly help in the application for TU status, as well as to facilitate the building of research capacity, increase the number of skilled staff and continue to up-skill the workforce through a talent pipeline.
According to a former member of the governing body of AIT, Senator Gabrielle McFadden, the institute meets all of the criteria for Technological University status and the two million euro allocation is “a good start”.
