The Minister for Defence has confirmed he has received an interim report into how a door of the air ambulance based in Athlone fell off

The Minister for Defence has confirmed he has received an interim report into how a door of the air ambulance based in Athlone fell off last month over Dublin.

The rear door of the helicopter detached and fell more than 250 meters onto the grounds of Moyle Park secondary school in Clondalkin.

The Air Corps helicopter was returning to Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel after performing a life-saving mission when the incident happened.

No one was injured but concerns were expressed around level of maintenance on Irish Defence Forces' aircraft.

Minister Paul Kehoe has told the Dail that he wants to give the Irish Air Corps more time to investigate the matter fully:
