Catalytic converters stolen from two Toyota prius cars in Athlone area

Toyota prius owners are being warned to try to make sure their cars are parked in as secure as place as possible.

The warning comes after two thefts of catalytic converters from two cars in the general Athlone area last week and both involved Toyota prius cars.

One of the cars had the converter sawn off when it was parked in the Department of Education car park on the Ballymahon road last Thursday.

The other car had its converter taken when it was parked-up in Monksland and its understood that it happened sometime on last Thursday or Friday.

The converters have to be sawn off in order to steal them and gardai say motorists could consider parking in an area with more passing traffic if they are concerned about the thefts.
