Athlone plebiscite should decide Church Street’s future – McFadden

A call has been made for the people of Athlone be allowed to decide themselves if Church Street in the town should be made one way in a €3million plan.

Westmeath County Council is set to meet on Monday where it is expected that the CE of the local authority, Pat Gallagher, will present a report on the plans as well as a summary of the written public submissions and a recommendation on the future of the project.

The controversial proposal was trialed previously in 2008 and business owners in the area are divided on whether the one-way system will be a positive or a negative for the town.
